WIRED News has an interesting article about "link rot":

Two researchers at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln tracked
so-called link rot after they discovered that hyperlinks
disappeared before they finished developing distance education
         courses.

The study, "Broken links: The ephemeral nature of educational
WWW hyperlinks," will be published in the Journal of Science
         Education and Technology in June.
