MVS 3.8 was the last true free sourced-included version of MVS and remains the base of z/OS to this day. Volker Bandke made it widely accessible by combining a well packaged system with a turnkey distribution of the Hercules mainframe emulator.

ASP 3.2
As an MVS 3.8 hobbyist you might be interested in this recently unearthed tape of ASP 3.2.
The tape is AWSTAPE format (You will need Hercules, P390, etc. to read or use file 533 VTT2TAPE utility to convert it to a real tape).
